Discover the Magic behind LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort
The journey of turning the humble plastic brick into iconic landmarks within the resortLegoland Johor Bahru Malaysia
KULAI, 27th July 2018 –At the heart of LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort lies the much-loved miniature replicas of Asia’s iconic landmarks – the Cambodian Angkor Wat, Indian Taj Mahal and Hoi An in Vietnam among others– which everyone loves. Intricately constructed with tiny plastic bricks, have you ever wondered how these replicas are created? Where are they made? Who are the masterminds behind these miniature models?
Legoland Johor Bahru Malaysia
The answers lie in Merlin Magic Making Studios (MMM) – the Global Creative Division for rides & attraction development, also known as the magic behind all LEGOLAND® parks. It is here where teams of locally trained LEGO® model builders work closely together to recreate iconic building and scenes with just LEGO® bricks. This extensive process consists of surveying locations, computer rendering, construction of the models and post production to ensure the integrity of the model is preserved. With over 900 million different brick combinations, the only limit is your imagination when it comes to the world of LEGO®.

LEGOLAND® Malaysia Miniland is home to many miniature replicas of Asian iconic landmarks. Constructed using more than 30 million LEGO® bricks, these include the Great Wall of China, Thailand’s Wat Arun and our very own Johor Majestic Palace. The Johor Bahru cluster, comprising of 323m2, is a unique feature of LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort and its creation involved a total of 35 LEGO® builders over the course of 14000 hours. More than 1.4 million bricks were also used to create notable landmarks such as the Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim & Masjid Jamek Sultan Abu Bakar. Visitors can expect an enhancement of the Johor Bahru cluster coming their way, including the construction of the iconic bustling scenes of Jalan Dhoby, Johor Bazaar and the old Chinese temple.

The Malaysian Chapter of MMM was first incorporated in January 2009 in Gelang Patah to meet the developmental needs of LEGOLAND® Malaysia Resort. Since then, the studio has expanded to house more than 60 employees whose work extends worldwide to even LEGOLAND® Dubai and LEGOLAND® Japan. Its strong foundation, strategic location and abundant resource of local talents have made it the perfect choice to be transformed into the Asia hub to support the growing demand for LEGO® models in the region. The new hub will be located in I-Park, Indahpura, Kulai, with increased capacity to include over 100 employees by 2020, in order to support the growing demand for LEGO® models in the region.
